Bengaluru, Mar 31: The people have been taking the lockdown order lightly and going out on the road even when the same is not extremely necessary. Repeated pleas of the government officials in this respect have been dismissed with impunity. As such, the police are now taking stronger measures. Over 5,000 vehicles have been confiscated from all over the state and fine running into lacs of rupees has been imposed.
The police have been pleading with the people that they need to keep outside visits to the bare minimum, that too only when there is a dire need. The very purpose of lockdown gets defeated if the people crowd markets or roads.
Efforts to tame the violators with the help of batons too did not work. Therefore, they have now taken a decision to take vehicles into custody and register cases against violators. As a result, more than 5,000 vehicles from the state including 2,000 from Bengaluru alone were taken into custody.
The Bengaluru police have since released the vehicles to the owners, duly warning them of taking strict measures if violations are witnessed henceforth. They have said that from Tuesday onward, vehicles which would be seized will not be returned till April 14.
