Chikkodi, Mar 31: The 21-day nation-wide lockdown has scaled down demand for milk. The lockdown also impacted the export trade of the commodity due to the sealing of borders making it difficult for the suppliers to reach out to their customers.
After the hotels and the restaurants shut down their business temporarily, the demand further slumped.
Meanwhile, the sorry state of affairs of the milk was seen, when senior journalist Marya Shakil uploaded a video on her official Twitter handle. The video reportedly shows an instance in North Karnataka's Chikkodi where a supplier can be seen throwing away over 1500 litres of milk because it could not be distributed.
As per reports, diaries which were earlier buying milk for Rs 32 per litre have now stated that they will shell out Rs 15 per litre. This price drop which could spell disaster for the farmers would have to be now reviewed by the Karnataka government to minimise the damage.
