Be alert, smart, quick: MLA Kamath shares guidelines for shoppers on Mar 31

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Mar 30: After three days total lockdown in Mangaluru, the curfew will be lifted for nine hours on March 31 between 6 am to 3 pm. Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyasa Kamath has issued guidelines to residents of the city to shop smart and quick.

In a detailed Facebook post, the MLA has asserted that the relaxation was given after several discussions and meetings. Depending on how people tackle relaxation on March 31, further relaxations will be announced, he said.

The MLA has issued nine guidelines such as:

1. Shopping has to be done by only one member of a family.
2. People should shop quickly and be mindful that people are waiting in queues.
3. Items in super markets should not be touched unnecessarily.
4. Carrying sanitizers and tissues is a must. Everyone has to wear a mask and cover their mouths and noses.
5. Everyone should carry a list of essentials they need and buy only those items.
6. Maintaining a distance of 2.5 metres from other shoppers and staff is a must.
7. The person who ventured for shopping, once home has to mandatorily have a shower and soak clothes worn in hot water.
8. People can also opt for home delivery of items and passes have already been issued to delivery persons.
9. One should not stop to chat with friends, relatives and acquaintances. The person should return home as soon as they finish shopping.

The MLA has requested people to strictly adhere to the guidelines and keep Mangaluru healthy and safe.

Karwar, chitradurga, Honavar, belaguam everywhere home deliveries are happening using the local home delivery guys for the local supply of food and groceries . This lock down is ok but essential deliveries should not be stopped. Closing for 3 days and then opening for one day is creating unnecessary burden on the retail shops and market employee putting these people at risk too and the general public who cannot maintain the required distance in some cases which may wash out any effect the lockdown may have had in the last 3 days . Keeping the essentials open everyday and getting home deliveries to be made is the best solution that people may not crowd make things worst. Please the local authorities take note that such lockdown and opening for one day will only make matters worse . Kindly make supplies stop as the available groceries and supply of vegetables are in short supply . Take the required precautions and please please make Arrangements so that home delivery becomes possible by getting more volunteers and avoid this kind of crowding and uncertainty among the general public .

Mr. Kamath, People do appreciate your guidelines but the sad fact is essential items like rice and atta are scarce. Veggies are a rare sight. All because those who are first in line manage to hoard. Need of the time is rationing. The shokeepers and the supermarkets should have packs of no more than 2kgs and one pack of essential items per person. That way there may be a fair and equal distribution amongst the public because THERE IS NO END TO GREED!!!!!!!!! The poor are being fed by NGOs and govt agencies, the rich probably don't know the meaning of scarcity. Yet again it is the middle class who stand in the Q for hours together, only to return empty handed.

District Administration is doing a good job. Since the District incharge Minister, MP, MLA and others have no much experience in crisis management, they should have invited former MCC Commissiner and MLA Mr J.R.Lobo and taken his advise. Also some members of the Chamber of commerce, Social activists like M.G.Hegde, Gerard Towers and others. Politicla leaders should rise above party lines and work for the common citizens. Public should join hands with the District Administarion and co-operate with them.

Mr. Kamath thank you for your valuable suggestions. We Mangaloreans have understood the importance.
Now as you are aware, we have more of outsiders in Mangalore who don't care when shopping nor will read these points.
At the same time if the borders are open then only God can help us.

Last week when I went for shopping there was a big line of around 1/8th of a mile & I went an hour before our wholesale opens which also has a gas station, tire shop, food court, eye clinic & pharmacy. I had to stand in queue for around 30 minutes. Inside all sections where the staff need to touch the objects like optical, ink refill are closed until the end of virus. The wholesale has good varieties of mediterranean food items. Grilled chicken is sold below the cost price, but they make it up with additional items like olives, mediterranean salad, pita bread, baked beans, hummus, organic eggs, organic carrots & broccoli etc., It's better than spicy food like extra spicy chicken biriyani where it becomes "char ane ki murgi & bara ane ka masala".
