Mangaluru, Mar 30: City police commissioner Dr P S Harsha has urged the citizens not to fall prey to the fake notices that are being circulated on WhatsApp groups in his as well as deputy commissioner’s and other public officials’ name.
In a statement the commissioner said, "Lots of rumours and misguided statements in the name of commissioner of police, DC and other public officials are doing rounds on WhatsApp groups. We have already registered a criminal case in this connection and are investigating the same. We hereby appeal people to believe only when our statements are published on official channels. Only a signed press note or official Twitter handle needs to be considered as genuine."
The commissioner also cited example of a notice that is being circulated that wine shops will be open in the state on March 29. This notice is made to look as if it is sent by the Director of Prohibition and Excise Department government of Karnataka.
There were also rumours going around like the DC has ordered the retailers of Dakshina Kannada and shops in the city fulfill the requirements of every public etc.
More than 50 vehicles of lockdown violators seized by police
City police personnel seized more than 50 vehicles that were moving in the city violating the total lock down that is in place.
This information was shared by Harsha, city police commissioner on his Twitter handle. On his Twitter, the CP wrote, "More than 50 vehicles seized from violators of lock down. The details will of violators will be updated shortly. Stay at home or face legal action. I appeal to everyone to comply with the lock down instructions."
Police had earlier warned that they will confiscate the vehicles of violators. The city is under complete lockdown since two days in order to contain the coronavirus infection, which is fast spreading in the neighbouring state of Kerala as well as in other parts of Karnataka.
