New Delhi, Dec 1: A delegation of Advocates Association Bangalore met Chief Justice of India, Justice Balakrishnan, here on Monday November 30, and discussed with him the issues relating to the controversy shrouding the state High Court Chief Justice Dinakaran’s proposed elevation and the charges of land grabbing against him. Reportedly, the delegation requested the CJI to relieve Justice Dinakaran from service, but the CJI told them that he does not have powers to discharge him from the judicial duties. At the same time, reports said that the CJI has consented to consider the practicability of transferring Karnataka Chief Justice from the present post.

The delegation is said to have been told by the CJI that the Supreme Court does not have any system of its own to probe corruption charges against Justice Dinakaran, and that this responsibility has to be handled by the union government. The Supreme Court can act and take disciplinary action only after the central government submits its findings, he clarified.

The delegation comprising Advocates Association Bangalore president, K N Putte Gowda, general secretary, R Rajanna and treasurer, T G Ravi, also approached the Supreme Court collegium’s members, Justice Tarun Chatterjee, Justice R V Ravindran and Justice Cyriac Joseph, to present their demands. Putte Gowda later informed that in a written submission, the Association had told the collegium, that the continuance of Justice Dinakaran will make the people to loose their faith in judiciary.
