Kasargod, Mar 29: In an incident that occurred in the district, the post-funeral rites (Vaikunta Samaradhane) of a deceased person were conducted over video call due to the restrictions that are in place due to the fast-spreading coronavirus infection.

The Vaikunta Samaradhane of Udaya Shankar Bhat (64) of Nettanige Kaipangala near here was held at his home on March 27. Due to the lockdown, the priest could not visit the house of the deceased to conduct the religious rites. However, as these religious rites are very important for the salvation of the departed soul, priest Vedamurthy K Krishna Kumar Upadhyaya of Patlamoole Mane of Puttur guided the family members of the deceased through video call about the rituals that need to be carried out.

Natraja Bhat, son of deceased Udaya Shankar Bhat completed the rituals as per the guidance of the priest over the video call. Only the house inmates were present during the religious ceremony.
