Kundapur, Mar 26: Police arrested one person in the taluk for violating the curfew norms of countrywide lock down against coronavirus pandemic.
The arrested youth is identified as Vishwanath Bhat (21), a resident of Uppinakudru of the taluk. He is a second year engineering student.
The accused Vishwanath Bhat was not covering his face with mask. The police on rounds questioned him about this when he was coming from Moodlukatte. The accused who got angry by the questioning of the police had approached the police station to file a complaint. But the personnel at the police station asked Vishwanath Bhat to go home as there is lock down everywhere. It is said that Vishwanath got further angered by the fact that his complaint was not taken by the police station personnel.
It is alleged that from the police station, Vishwanath Bhat went straight to Shastri Cirlce of the town and had a verbal spat with the police on duty. Later when he threatened the police personnel saying that he will make a call to the DC and give complaint against the police, sub-inspector Harish who was at the spot swung his lathi on him. He was arrested immediately on the orders of assistant commissioner Raju K, who was standing beside SI Harish.
A case under section 353 (obstruction to duty) is registered against the accused. It is learnt that Bhat, who was studying engineering in Bengaluru, was going to his house from his grandmother’s house.
