Bengaluru, Mar 25: At a time when coronavirus infection has been threatening to acquire mammoth proportions, dearth of laboratories conducting tests about this infection is being badly felt. Considering the need to increase the number of testing facilities, the central government has decided to avail of the services of private hospitals and laboratories in its campaign against this virus.
Initially, 12 private laboratories in the country have been given permission to conduct coronavirus tests. Three of these private laboratories in Karnataka have got the nod. They are KMC Hospital Manipal, Shankar Research Centre's laboratory, and SRL laboratory on Bowring Hospital Road at Shivajinagar here.

Eight private labs from Maharashtra, two from Haryana, three from Tamil Nadu, four from Delhi, and three each from Karnataka and Gujarat have been given permission. These labs have over 15,000 collection centres all over the country. Blood samples and throat swabs of coronavirus suspects can be given at these centres.
