Mangalore, Nov 24: The Geological Society of India will conduct an objective-type entrance test (ET) to select about 20 students to attend a training camp in Earth Sciences at Bangalore during May 2010. Four students will be finally chosen from among the training camp participants, who will represent India at the fourth International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) to be held at Yogyakarta, Indonesia from September 19 to September 28, 2010.
The one and a half hour objective type test would be held at 10.30 am on January 24, 2010 at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dharwad, Goa, Guwahati, Hissar (Punjab), Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mangalore, Mumbai, New Delhi, Patna, Pune, Shillong, Thiruvananthapuram, Varanasi and Vishakhapatnam. The syllabus (with weightage) covers Geosphere (45), Atmosphere (20), Hydrosphere (15) and Astronomy (20). Details syllabus is available at http://www.ieso2009.tw/home/2a_scient.html
Students of X and XI standards who were born between September 15, 1992 and September 15, 1995, and who have not participated and won a prize in an earlier IESO are eligible to apply on plain paper giving their name, date of birth, sex, school address, address for correspondence, email address, phone number; test centre opted with first, second and preference and applicant’s signature. Two passport size photos and a certificate from the principal/ headmaster stating that the candidate is studying in X/XI standard should be enclosed.

The 20 students selected for the training camp in Earth Sciences will be awarded certificates of merit. The four students selected for competing at the IESO will be awarded certificates of merit and cash prizes.
