Bangalore, Nov 24: As the party leaders will be busy with the election for the legislative council seats that will fall vacant on January 5, the BJP has decided to elect its state president on January 4. Earlier, it was decided to complete the entire election process by December 15.
The Election Committee of the BJP met here on Monday to consider the issue of holding organizational elections, and after discussions, decided on the above date. National electoral officer of the party, Tawar Singh Gehlot, state election officer, Dr Shivayogi Swami and state office bearers were resent.
The term of the present state president of the party, D V Sadanand Gowda, is set to expire by the end of December. It was earlier planned to hold the organizational elections in November, but the plans had to be deferred in view of the flood havoc in north Karnataka. The elections for the district and other committees, earlier scheduled between December 1 and 18, also have been postponed and be now held after December 18, the date on which the election process for the upper house will conclude, Gowda told the presspersons, after the meeting.
The meeting has also decided to finalize the list of the candidates of the party for the legislative council election before the 28th of this month.
