Mangaluru, Mar 22: Soon after the first coronavirus case was confirmed in Mangaluru, Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary urged people to take extra precaution and stay indoors.
Speaking to reporters here on Sunday March 22, Poojary said, "A total of 104 samples were sent to the lab, out of which one has tested positive. Another 15 reports are awaited.
"The person who tested positive is a youngster. The doctors have expressed confidence that he will recover," he added.
Urging people to take precautions against the pandemic, he said, "People should not assemble in groups. Everyone should stay indoors, and step out only if there is extreme necessity.
"If needed, we will take the help of police to ensure that people remain indoors," he warned.
"Those who have arrived from a foreign country must remain in home quarantine. If such people violate quarantine, a complaint should be filed with the police. The cops will ensure that they follow precautions," he added.
Mangaluru first coronavirus case was confirmed after a 22-year-old native of Bhatkal tested positive. He arrived from Dubai on March 19, and was screened at the Mangaluru International Airport. He is presently in the isolation ward at Wenlock hospital.
Dakshina Kannada along with eight other districts in the state will remain under lockdown till March 31, during which everything except essential services will remain closed. Bus service will also be stopped during this period.
