Goa conducts ZP elections amid coronavirus fear

Panaji, Mar 19: ZP election is scheduled to be held on March 22 and counting on the following day.

North district Collector R Menaka advised the returning officers to sanitize the polling booths and other equipments amid concern over the outbreak of coronavirus. The voters will be provided with alcohol-based sanitizers before and after the voting process the collector said.

The collector assured to strictly adhere to the advisory of the election commission with respect to mass gatherings during the election and counting of votes.

The collector in a meeting with the returning officers on Wednesday has asked to focus on cleanliness
and hygiene during the election.

SEC secretary, Melvyn Vaz issued instructions to the returning officers stating the guidelines to be followed. The polling booths must be sanitized and mopping must be done with disinfectants and adequate facilities to be provided at the polling booths to wash their hands.

The state has not recorded any positive cases so far.
