Goa may close down road borders with Maharashtra, Karnataka

Panaji, Mar 18 (IANS): The Goa government is contemplating closing down of the state's road borders in order to prevent tourists incoming from Maharashtra and Karnataka into the state amid the coronavirus pandemic, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said on Tuesday.

"I have sought advice from the government especially (Union Health Minister) Harsh Vardhan on how we can block our borders. Because of this 15-day period, people from the bordering areas of Maharashtra and Karnataka are coming in the state of Goa," Rane said.

Last week, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had ordered a partial lock-down of public spaces in the state until March 31.

"We need to stop it, so a file has been moved to CM for necessary action. We will have to at some point, seal the borders. It is very, very important," Rane also said.
