Mangalore, Nov 19: The parish feast of Our Lady of Mercy, Fajir here was celebrated with much reverence on Wednesday November 18.
The festal eucharistic celebration was presided over by Fr Onil D’Souza, director of Canara Organization for Development and Peace (CODP). The blessed candles were presented to the sponsors of parish feast before the Holy Mass.
The Eucharistic Mass was concelebrated along with Mangalore south deanery vicar and Mudipu Blessed Joseph Vaz parish priest Fr Andrew D’Souza and other priests from neighbouring parishes of Paneer, Amembal, Mudipu, Eliyarpadav, Permannur, Ranipura, Vijayadka, Bola, Belvai. Guest priests arrived from various parishes across the Mangalore diocese.
Fr Onil in his homily called on the faithful to walk on the steps of Jesus Christ, who emptied himself till the death on the cross because of his love for mankind. The parish units of Catholic Sabha, ICYM and YCS put up various stalls in the parish grounds and were thronged by people after the Holy Mass. Housie-housie games and lucky-dip draw were also held on the occasion.
Parish council vice-president John Victor Mendonca, secretary John Fernandes, council members and leaders of various parish organizations took the leadership of overall arrangements under the guidance of parish priest Fr Stany Pereira.
Fr Stany also thanked each and everyone who helped to make the celebrations grand successful including Team Daijiworld. Over 2,000 devotees regardless of caste, creed and religion attended the annual parish feast.
