Mangalore, Nov 19: A series of talks on oncology has been planned by the postgraduate nursing and department of paediatric nursing in association with medical and surgical oncologists.
The inaugural programme with the first seminar on “concepts and issues in oncology” was held at the conference hall of Father Muller Charitable Hospital on Tuesday November 17. The seminar was followed by a lecture delivered by surgical oncologist Dr Rohan Chandra Ghatty.
Fr Stany Tauro Administrator, Father Muller Medical College Hospital presiding over the programme highlighted the need for updated education on oncology to render quality care. A documentary by the department of oncology was displayed. Around 200 delegates from various colleges of Mangalore attended the seminar.
Prof Prema D’Souza, PG programme co-ordinator and head, paediatric nursing department welcomed the gathering. Zareen Taj , lecturer thanked the gathering.
The series of further talks will be conducted once a week on every Tuesdays between 3.00 to 5.00 pm at conference hall of Father Muller Medical College Hospital. The future topics of the seminars include different organ system cancers such as head and neck, breast, gastro- intestinal, genitor- urinary, bone and soft tissues , pain and palliative care, physiotherapy in oncology patients, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, acute lymphocyte leukaemia, lymphoma. Medical and surgical oncologist of Father Muller Medical College Hospital will deliver the talks during the seminars.
