Kasargod: One dead, two injured after lorry rams into transformer

Kasargod, Mar 15: One person lost his life and two others sustained injuries after a lorry rammed into a transformer at Moonamkadavu in Periya here on Sunday March 15.

The deceased has been identified as Mani (43), a native of Pollachi, Tamil Nadu.

Lorry driver Shakti Velu and another person identified as Kumar sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to hospital.

It is learnt that the driver lost control of the vehicle and smashed into a transformer by the side of the road. After hitting the transformer, the lorry overturned, and the three men got trapped underneath. After hours of effort, they were pulled out by the fire service personnel and the police. Mani had breathed his last by then.

The lorry was transporting an electric poles to Kundangui.

Two fire service personnel also sustained injuries while trying to move the electric poles from the lorry during the rescue operation, it is learnt.

    Heavier the load and older the body.. greater chances of completely getting crushed due to momentum.

    these lorries would not be speeding, given its condition and the load. In India there is no much importance given to the trucks safety. These should be periodically checked for tires, engine, breaks and given safety certificates how they do it in USA and Canada. Anyways, we should only day dream to see these things happening in India but at least the rescue personnel should wear protective gloves and proper gears for the rescue , instead of hurting themselves.
