Mangaluru, Mar 14: Intense precautionary measures are taken in the district of Dakshina Kannada in the wake of increasing cases of coronavirus infections. More than 80 centers for checking coronavirus infection are opened including Mangaluru International Airport and New Mangalore Port.
In addition to Wenlock and Lady Goshen hospitals, coronavirus testing centers are opened at six community health centers, 66 primary health care centers and four taluk hospitals of the district. People can visit any of these centers in case of suspected infection.

All the centers have started functioning from Friday, March 13 itself. Necessary training to handle the infected patients is already given to the staff manning these centers. The service is available 24x7 at Wenlock, Lady Goshen, airport and NMPT. In other primary health care and community health care centers it is available from morning till evening only. This information was shared by district health officer Dr Rajesh.
Any people arriving from overseas should contact helpline numbers 104/1077 or telephone number 0824-2442590 in case they feel fever, cough, cold or breathing problems. Dr Rajesh clarified that so far no cases of coronavirus infection are confirmed in the district.
People rush to buy stock of essential items
Meanwhile, people rushed to malls and groceries on the evening of Friday to stock the essentials in the wake of the one week shut down declared by state government. There was huge rush in central market of the city. Vegetables, fruits, pulses and rice were in great demand. The crowd of people is less in many malls since some days. However, in supermarkets, where the essentials are sold, huge crowd was seen.
Business for hoteliers in the city has gone down drastically. People from outstation places are not arriving due to the coronavirus scare.
