Bengaluru: Government announces revised reservation criteria for urban local bodies

Daijworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Mar 12: The state government has issued an order, fixing reservation criteria for the posts of the presidents and vice presidents of urban local bodies in the state for which elections were held in 2018.

The issue of electing presidents and vice presidents to urban local bodies was hanging fire even after nearly two years as several had approached the high court, questioning the rationale behind fixing of reservations and seeking to make changes. Recently, the government had told the high court that it would do away with anomalies in the fixing of reservations and issue a revised order. In keeping with this assurance, it came out with a gazette notification on Wednesday, fixing reservation criteria for the posts of presidents and vice presidents of local urban bodies. The reservation criteria now fixed for president and vice president are as follows: Bantwal - Woman from general category, woman candidate from BCB. Beltangady - BCB, general. Kaup - BCA, SC woman. Karkala - General category, a lady from the general category. Kundapur - Lady (general), BCA. Moodbidri - General category, BCA woman. Puttur - Woman (general), ST. Saligrama - General, BCA. Udupi - Woman (BCA), woman (general category). Ullal - Woman (general), general.
