Panaji, Mar 10: The Goa police's traffic cell registered 103 cases of underage riding/driving from January 1 to March 9. The underage driving has led to several road mishaps and once of the recent incident included the death of three teenagers due to speeding in Verna on Sunday.
“All three of them were underage drivers,” said DySP North Goa, traffic, Dharmesh Angle. “We are regularly booking such cases and we patrol areas where these incidents take place, especially near colleges. Yet, many youngsters still drive or ride without a license.”
Angle stated that it was the parents who had take responsibilty for the safety of their children and it was they who could ensure that underage driving does not occur.
“We are doing our best to educate them and create awareness. Parents must realise that they are not only endangering the lives of their children but also the lives of other road users,” he said.
Speeding has ranked as the number one traffic violation owing to which motorists have lost their driving license in 2019. Last year, the driving licences of a total of 2,053 people were suspended for three months due to this violation.
