Udupi, Mar 9: One day halting camp was organized for the Scouts and Guides of Milagres English Medium School, Kallianpur near here on March 7 and 8 in the school premises.
The camp was scheduled from the evening of March 7 to evening of March 8. The camp was inaugurated on March 7 at 3 pm by Jayaram Shettigar secretary of Bharat Scouts and Guides District Association, Udupi. A lantern was let into the sky to mark the start of the camp. In his inaugural speech, he gave a call to the Scouts and Guides to rise higher and higher and benefit from the camp to learn the modalities of Scouts and Guides. He called on the participants to commit themselves towards becoming trustworthy and responsible personalities that society wishes to recognize through this training camp. He added that scouting and guiding will give an experience of how to face challenges of life.
The headmaster of the school Fr Lancy Fernandes SJ presided over the event and motivated the students by giving his example of being a scout during his school days.
About 88 Scouts and Guides (40 boys and 48 girls) participated in the overnight camp. They were given opportunities to bring out their innate talents during the campfire. Participants were divided into 10 patrols. Allen Lewis president, Bharat Scouts and Guides of local Kallianpur Association briefed the participants on the uses of cycling. Training sessions on tent-making, preparation of masks, learning the knots and lashings were taught to students.
“This was an unforgettable experience”, said a student while sharing her experience at the valedictory function. Captain Florine D’Silva, secretary of Bharat Scouts and Guides, Kallianpur Local Association was the chief guest for the valedictory function. Students were awarded prizes for various competitions that were held patrol wise. Scoutmasters Vinay, Vincent, Prashanth, guide captains Veronica, Pallavi, Anusha, Irene, Flavy and Poornima cooperated for the successful organization of the residential camp.
