Mangaluru, Mar 9: The final year students from all the streams along with the PG students of St Agnes College (Autonomous), gave a farewell program for the retiring teaching staff of the college on Saturday, March 7. The programme was combined with the Women’s day celebration organised by the Women’s Cell and the felicitation of student achievers by the Alumni Association.
The farewell programme began with a prayer song by the members of the Women Cell. Among the dignitaries were the three retiring professors, Dr Geralyn Pinto, Dr Malini Hebbar and Saramma. Sr Dr M Jeswina AC principal, St Agnes College and Sr Dr Venora AC, PG coordinator were also present. The college president Jerusha Maben welcomed the gathering followed by a welcome dance. Anna Una Crasta PG student president, Jennifer D'Souza final year BA student, Maleeha Fatura from III BSc shared their memories on behalf of all the students and expressed their gratitude to their respective teachers Dr GeralynPinto, Dr Malini Hebbar and Saramma.
Dr Geralyn Pinto while recollecting her memory in the campus said, “I remember coming here with my brand new teacher kit in the year 1986. I was full of ideas, things to do, to make a difference and a determination to root out every grammatical error on the campus.” She also stated that she learned many things about digital technology from students in her mid 40’s. She expressed her sincere gratitude to the institution for supporting her and giving her the opportunity to learn new things as a teacher. Saramma in her address advised the students to build their personality and character.
Dr Malini Hebbar spoke about the inner beauty of everybody. She quoted a rhyming scheme of the calamities, "Amazon burns, Coorg shakes, Kerala sinks and COVID-19 hits. Despite all these calamities we should be optimists and stay positive no matter what," she said. She also encouraged students to be the seekers of knowledge and said her inner beauty is always seeking knowledge.
Dr Sr M Jeswina AC expressed her gratitude to the retiring professors for their long service and also shared her beautiful memories with them.
The farewell programme was followed by the International Women’s day programme by the members of Women’s Cell and honouring of student achievers by the Alumni Association.
Sarah Monis compered the programme. Emima David dean of Science was the convenor and Vivid D'Souza, secretary of Alumni Association proposed the vote of thanks.
