Udupi, Nov 12: A ritual, Mushti Kanike, a handful of coins offered to Lord by devotees and village elders including temple priests, convenors of local units Bajrang Dal, was held at Sri Subramanya temple, Padebettu, near here on Thursday November 12. The handful of offerings set the motion to raise funds for renovation of the temple at the estimated cost of Rs 1.5 crore.
The various Vedic rites were performed by Vedamurti Vadiraj Upadhyaya Kambalakatte and Radhakrishna Upadhyaya Kambalakatte in the presence of chief temple priest Srinivas Udupa and Vastu expert Subramanya Avadhani. The temple will be renovated ahead of Brahmakalashotsav, scheduled to be held on May 18, 2010 and Nagamandala on May 23.
Temple managing trustee Pandyar Barpani Jitendra Shetty, Ganesh Bhagavat, Temple renovation, Brahmakaloshotsav and Nagamandala committee honorary president Dr Navinchandra N Shetty, president Ramachandra Acharya, executive president Harish Shetty Padebettu, secretaries Jaya S Shetty, Jagdish Shetty and K L Kundantaya, zilla panchayat member Shashikant Padubidri, Vishnumurti Bhat, Bajrang Dal Padubidri convenor Prakash Shetty Padebettu, Sri Rama Sene Padubidri convenor Anil Shetty, Praveen Shetty Inna, Dr Manoj Shetty, Naveen Shetty, Bhaskar Shetty, Santhosh Shetty and Poovappa Poojary among others participated in the ritual.
K L Kundantaya later explained the features of renovated temple which are drawn from many famous temples of south India.
