Kundapur, Mar 3: A large number of gambling dens have been operational all over the taluk without any authorization. Based on information they got, the police conducted raids on a number of such dens and seized lacs of rupees on Monday March 2.
During the raid on Unity Recreation Association club at Kageri in Koteshwar village, the police found that Soora Poojary (65) from Kolkere, Jayaraj (44) from Kenchanur in Karkunje village, S Kumar (54) from Ankadakatte, Gavali Ganesh (46) from Yadady Matyady village, Santosh (42) from Hangalur, Sheena Poojary (64) residing near Adarsha Hospital, Manjunath (45) from Maruti Vana Road in Koteshwar, Ganesh (32) from Hale Alive Aralgudde, Narayan (55) from Moodugopady, Uday Achary (35) from Shankaranarayana Kuppar, Jayaprakash Sheregar (49) from Moodlakatte Ullur Makkimane, Ramanna Shetty (55) from Hana Estate Ankadakatte, and Udayakumar Shetty (42) from Markodu Hadimane were engaged in the game of cards with gambling. A sum of Rs 13,040 was recovered from their possession.
During the raid on illegal cards gambling den that was being run on the upper storey of Laxmi Bar at Goliangady, the police took into custody Siddartha Shetty, Santosh Kumar Shetty, Harish Shetty, Ramesh Kulal, Wilson, Uday Bhandary, Harish Tolar, Anand Poojary, Mahabala, Manjunath, and Bhujanga Shetty. They took into possession 1,03,205, 12 cellphones, two cars and three motorbikes from their possession.
The polie also conducted raid on Shantha Recreation run by Jayaram Shetty at Dottinaberu in Siddapur village. They took into custody Mahesh Poojary, Anil K Shetty, Hirianna Shetty, Avinash, Nagaraj N, and Rangaswamy who were found playing Andar-Bahar gambling cards game. Rs 6,745 in cash, five cellphones, a motorbike and a car were confiscated from their possession.
The Byndoor police raided MG Recreation Club at Sauparnika Complex in Yadthare village, and arrested Prashanth Bankeshwar (46), Arehole Suresh (46), Arekal Rajesh (36), Bhatkal Teragodu Raju Rama Naik (40), Ganesh Bankeshwar (46), Satish from Bada Madayya House, Jayant (35) from Paduvari village, Veerendra Shetty (50) from Gantihole, Gopa Bankeshwar (47), Soorkunda Raghavendra (43), and Narayana Kharvi (55) from Tarapati Byndoor who were found to be engaged in gambling. Rs 26,500 in cash and nine mobile phones were recovered from them. Case has been registered against them.
