Mangalore, Nov 8: A Maruti Omni car caught fire at a petrol and gas station in Balmatta on Sunday November 8. Miraculously, there were no major damages caused.
The Omni (KA 05 D 5248) caught fire immediately after it was filled with Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). The two people inside the car escaped without injuries as they stepped out of the car when the fire was detected.
The petrol pump staff used fire extinguishers immediately and this helped in avoiding any other damage. The fire department personnel doused the fire completely.
The incident created tension among the staff at the petrol station and the public as there was also stock of LPG at the location. But prompt action by the fire department and the use of fire extinguishers helped control the situation.
An eyewitness said that the converter in the car had a problem and the fire ignited in the device.
The car is owned by a Bangalorean who was on a trip to the city. Kadri police registered a case in this regard.
