Mangaluru, Feb 28: With the efforts of former ministers, the late K Amarnath Shetty and K Abhayachandra Jain, special tahsildar's post was sanctioned to Mulky. Mulky revenue division comprising ten gram panchayats and 30 revenue villages has been declared a separate taluk on February 27 last year after it got cabinet clearance on that date.
A one-acre plot has been set side at Gerukatte for the construction of various offices. Mulky already has some of the government offices needed for a taluk like special tahsildar, sub-registrar etc.
Harirkishna Punaroor, who had fought for the taluk recognition for Mulky by chairing Mulky Taluk Action Committee in the past, says that people's representatives should have taken more interest in getting taluk status for Mulky and for providing basic infrastructure needed for the taluk and its people. If the needful is not done, he says, the fight will be resumed.
Former MLA, Abhayachandra Jain, said that during the period he met Yediyurappa along with U T Khader recently, the chief minister promised to sanction grants to create basic amenities for Mulky taluk. MLA Umanath Kotian, said that implementation of basic infrastructure for Moodbidri taluk has already begun and that the chief minister has promised to set aside ten crore rupees for Mulky taluk this time. "Master plan for the Mini Vidhana Soudha is ready, and I will strive to make this a model taluk," he added.
