Bengaluru: Railway bookings for Bengaluru-Karwar trains suspended

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Feb 28: It is learnt that bookings for the two express trains which move between Bengaluru and Karwar via Mangaluru Central have been suspended with effect from June 16. The railway department is learnt to have taken this step as it is expected that there might be some changes in the schedule of these trains.

The railway timetable committee meeting was held at Bengaluru on Thursday February 27. Members of the Railway Board too took part in the meeting. The members have decided to sort out dispute over the proposed introduction of train between Yeshwantpur and Vasco. A clear picture might emerge during the third day meeting on Friday, sources said.

The railway department's plan to make the current train moving between Bengaluru and Karwar via Mangaluru central to run via Padil bypass without touching Mangaluru central has faced stiff opposition from the MPs and railway activists. This issue may get a clear picture on Friday. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, has asked the railway board not to change the route of the train that is moving via Mangaluru central now. Therefore, sources in the railway board office at New Delhi do not expect the proposal to divert the train via Padil Bypass to materialize.

In the meanwhile, Kundapur Train passengers Welfare Committee has requested the chairman and managing director of Konkan Railway Corporation through a memorandum to introduce the newly announced Bengaluru-Udupi-Vasco train immediately.
