Beltangady, Feb 26: Two persons with criminal antecedents, on silly pretext, launched violent attack with lethal weapons on an innocent youth at Rekhya in the taluk on Tuesday February 25.
The man who came under savagely attack in this case happens to be Girish Gowda (25), resident of Kelenjikody in Rekhya village. Relating to the said incident, a case stands registered at Dharmasthala police station.
A group of youth was taking bath in Gundia rivulet near Kedambala in Rekhya village. Vishwanath K S alias Chaddi Bala and Ramesh Achary, residents of Katte in Rekhya, who were drunk, came there and started to vandalize the area. When Girish Gowda tried to stop them, they reportedly attacked him with sharp weapons and posed him death threat. Girish, who suffered serious injuries, is being treated in Beltangady hospital.
Vishwanath K S and Ramesh Achary have criminal background, it is said. Vishwanath K S, who was facing charges of stealing diesel from vehicles at night and attempting to rape a lady, was jailed twice in the past. It is said that he is out on bail. Allegedly, he indulges in gambling under a tree next to the school, and had recently pelted stones at the house next door. Ramesh Achary is said to be facing allegations of smuggling of timber from the forest. All these charges are under investigation.
