Mumbai, Feb 25: In a rare operation in Parel’s Global Hospital doctors have removed giant kidneys weighing 7kg and 5.8kg of 41-year-old Roman Pereira hailing from Goa.

41-year-old Roman Pereira was suffering from kidney complication since a decade now. This condition would leave him breathless and weak to walk since the past one and a half years. His haemoglobin levels, too, had begun to deplete.

Nephrologist Dr Bharat Shah of Parel’s Global Hospital said ADPKD was an rare case found in around 5% of patients. Renal transplant surgeon Dr Pradeep Rao said “Through a single incision, we could remove both kidneys which weighed 12.8kg in total.”

Doctors found a transplant in Amravati couple Nitin and Radha Tapar. Doctors said “We transplanted Pereira with Radha’s kidney. Both are well.”
