Karkala: Police raid illegal slaughterhouse - Arrest two, confiscate beef

Karkala, Feb 21: A team of policemen led by rural station house officer here, Nasir Hussain, raided an slaughterhouse that was illegally functioning inside the Kelagina Kukkaje thicket at Indrabail in Durg village on Thursday February 20, arrested two persons and took into possession 30 kg beef and equipment used for cutting the flesh were confiscated.

The arrested accused happens to be Sheikh Saudatta (20) from Tellar Ramunte in Durg village, and his brother, Sheikh Shapat (19). On Thursday morning, the accused who butchered a cow inside Kelagina Kukaje thicket in Indrabail, Durg, were preparing beef when the police, based on reliable information, raided the spot.

After arresting the accused from the spot, the police confiscated 30 kg beef valued at Rs 5,000, a hatchet, old banner, rope, weighing scale and weights.

The police said that the accused had stolen a cow that was brought here and killed to make meat. Several villagers said that this gang is involved with similar activity at various places within Durg gram panchayat limits and urged the police to rein in the gang. A case has been registered in this connection in Karkala rural police station.
