Karkala: Programme on groundwater held in taluk panchayat

Karkala, Feb 19: An awareness programme for 2019-20 on groundwater for Karkala taluk gram panchayat presidents and taluk panchayat officials was held by Karnataka government groundwater directorate Bengaluru and district groundwater office, Udupi at Taluk panchayat auditorium on February 19.

Taluk panchayat vice president Harish Nayak inaugurated the programme. Senior geology scientist of the department of land and geology, Ranji Naik released a pamphlet of the department.

Chief guest, district groundwater office Mangaluru, senior scientist Janaki P said that people in gram panchayat limits should be informed about the importance of groundwater and create awareness of the destruction of forests. “Nature should be protected by planting more saplings,” she said.

Ranji Nayak said that water conservation and water harvesting is essential in villages and there should be awareness about it in panchayat limits.
Karkal taluk panchayat executive Dr Major Harsha gave details on the limited use of water and its conservation. Harish Nayak said that a good society should be created for the next generation and there should be awareness in villages about water, water creatures and water bodies. State resource person and trainee Rathnashree Joseph G M Rebello conducted the symposium on groundwater.

District groundwater office senior geology scientist Dr A Dinaker Shetty welcomed and gave an introduction. Groundwater department’s Divya sang a prayer. Pramila Nayak compered the programme.
