Panaji, Oct 29: British fugitive nabbed in Goa tried to pick up physical fight with journalists twice since his arrest on Tuesday on the way to the court, police said.
Ajay Kaushal, 50, tried to catch hold of collar of one of a photo-journalist on Tuesday when he was being taken for remand. Again on Wednesday, he tried to grab the camera of a local news channel on his way to the court in Margao town, 30 kms away from here.
The footage aired by a local news-channel showed Kaushal getting aggressive with the media and was later controlled by the policemen who were escorting him to the custody.
“I am sure photographers must have provoked him in some way. He must have misunderstood them with paparazzi,” superintendent of police (PRO) Atmaram Deshpande reacted over the incident.
The superintendent of police said that the police did managed to control him.
Kaushal, a burly man, is listed as most wanted by Lancashire (UK) police after he was on the run. The man with Indian origin is sentenced for 15 years jail imprisonment.
He along with six others was convicted for kidnapping a businessman for ransom and later dumping him after accepting the money.
Margao police who came on Monday evening accidently stumbled upon Kaushal while investigating death of his British friend, William Scott, who apparently died due to drug overdose at Colva beach.
“Kaushal will be handed over to UK police once they are down and we have managed to secure his judicial custody for five days from the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao,” Deshpande said.
