Bantwal, Feb 16: In yet another accident, over 50 passengers were injured after a bus rammed into another bus at Kalpane near Benjanapadavu here on Sunday February 16.

Among the injured, four are said to be critical. A passenger identified as Mohan Singh, Gurupur-Kaikamba residents Chandrashekar and Kamalaksha and Permude resident Leelavati have sustained serious injuries, police sources said.

It is learnt that a bus carrying a wedding party, returning from BC Road towards Polali, rammed into another bus from the rear, causing the driver of the latter to lose control of the vehicle. The impact was such that the second bus rolled over.

The bus carrying the wedding party also hit an electric pole and veered off the road, falling into a roadside ditch.

The wedding party consisted of relatives of the bride. They were returning after the wedding ceremony that was held at Sparsha Kala Mandir.

The bus driver's negligence and reckless driving caused the accident, eyewitnesses said.

Sources said that altogether 54 persons were injured, including those who escaped with minor bruises. They were rushed to different hospitals, and several have been already discharged. While 12 were admitted to Bantwal government hospital, seven were in Somayaji hospital in BC Road, 19 in Father Muller Hospital, and 15 in Kankanady Father Muller hospital, police said.

The police have taken the bus driver into custody for questioning.

Bantwal town police SI Avinash, traffic SI Rama Naik and other police personnel arrived at the spot. A large crowd gathered at the accident spot causing some disruption in traffic movement.

The mishap comes just a day after a ghastly accident took the lives of nine persons in Karkala.

Its all illegal. The bus owners are not supposed to cancel the route busses for wedding trips.
there are many bus owners who cancel their regular trip causing problems to the travellers and to get more profit make wedding trips. RTO is also not bothered. this should be stopped. there are tourist busses for all these purpose.

Ban all private operations from DK. We don't want to be tagged as Death Zone District. We don's see any action taken by RTO, or traffice dept. WhY?

My opinion is that time has come to our DC, MPs, MLAs and RTO to declare SOUTH KANARA and UDUPI District has complete DEATH ZONE.
If any Accident occurred by Public Transport system, then cancel the license of the bus and driver forever. Bring them in Black List.

While driving, it is very important to keep sufficient distance from the vehicle in front. In fact, it is the first and utmost important rule for driving. Half of the accidents can be avoided if one keeps adequate gap from the front vehicle.

As the road is narrow & foot path too is down from the road buses stop in the middle of the road without giving signal which causes the vehicles following them without adequate gap between them to collide with the one in front.
Reckless are both as safety precautions they don't take.

Sir. I agree. But this accident is due to reckless driving of the driver which is rolled over and not the reason of shubhalakshmi bus driver. And regular driver in those roads don't drive in that speed. This accident spot is just 50 meters from my house. And we know those local bus drivers there personally too. Only the drivers who are driving tourists bus will do reckless driving

As usual, the locals were extremely helpful in helping. No one asked for one's background, all that mattered was compassion towards humanity. India is great.
