Kundapur, Feb 16: Kota police personnel intercepted a container truck in the main market area of Saibrakatte of Kota near here, in which 16 bullocks were being transported in an inhumane manner to the slaughterhouse. 16 cattle were rescued and four people are arrested in this connection and the vehicle used for this purpose also is seized by the police.
The arrested are identified as Imitiyaz Lalkhan, Dadu and Tabrez, all residents of Haveri Ranebennur, while the fourth arrested is Abdul Ravoof, a resident of Kandloor in Kundapur taluk.
On definite information of illegal cattle trafficking in a container truck, Nityananda Gowda, station officer of Kota police station along with constable Satish and home guard personnel Vijay were inspecting all the vehicles at Saibrakatte check post. The container truck carrying the cattle tried to escape through the check post. When the police intercepted and checked they found 16 bullocks stuffed in the container in an inhumane manner. The accused said that these were being transported from Bagewadi in Belgaum to a slaughterhouse in Kasargod.
The arrested people used a fish transporting container truck to transport the cattle to avoid any kind of suspicion. When police intercepted the truck, the inmates said that they are transporting fish. There was a car that was driven in front of the truck as an escort. When the police stopped the car for checking, they stopped for some time but then escaped from the spot. However, the police were able to arrest one person out of the three occupants of the car.
The value of the cattle that are confiscated by the police is said to be Rs 6.20 lac. The bullocks were sent to Goshala in Nilavar. A case in this regard is registered in Kota police station.
