Sullia, Feb 16: A man has been arrested for trying to rape a minor girl. Three others have also been arrested for setting fire to his shop in revenge.
Abdullah, who was running a petty shop by the roadside at Kudmar of Savanoor in the taluk, allegedly tried to rape a minor girl, a fifth standard student. The incident occured on Friday February 14.
After the incident came to light, enraged locals set Abdullah's petty shop on fire on Friday night. The shop was completely gutted. The police team led by acting SI Anjaneya Reddy of Bellare police station quickly arrested three people in this connection. They have been identified as Praveen, Pradeep and Sudhir, all residents of Bareppadi.
Abdullah, who has two wives and six children, was arrested on Friday evening based on a complaint filed by the parents of the victim.
The arrest operation was guided by circle inspector Naveen Chandra Jogi and Puttur DySP Dinakar Shetty.
