Udupi, Feb 14: Minister for muzrai, fisheries, ports and inland water transport, Kota Srinivas Poojary flagged off the 'Saptapadi' chariot to raise awareness about mass marriage in front of Kadiyali Sri Mahishamardini temple on Friday, February 14.
This programme was conducted to raise awareness and promote free mass marriage programme of the government.
Kota Srinivas Poojary sought the blessings of Goddess Mahishamardini at the temple. He said that mass marriages as per Hindu traditions will be held in temples on April 26.
The government will give total worth Rs 55,000 items like saree, mangalsutra to the bride and shirt, dothi ,shawl, peta to the bridegroom. The last date for the application will be on March 22.
The mass marriage will be held in simple way and this is a good opportunity for rural people.
A seminar on mass marriage will be held on February 23. Public, villagers, political leaders, saint and spiritual gurus are expected to participate in the programme.
Nodal officer Prashant Shetty, executive officer Ganesh Rao, Mokshasar Shreesha Upadhyaya and managing board chairman K Sheesha were also present.
Srinivasa Hebbar, municipal council member, Geeta Shet, trustee, Asha Srinivasa and Vijayendra Rao, renovation committee, were present.
