Bengaluru, Feb 14: Director general and inspector general of police of Karnataka, Praveen Sood, who also happens to be the chairman of Karnataka State Police Recruitment Board, told the high court that recommendations which might be made by elected representatives like legislators and Lok Sabha members for transfer of police officials will be ignored.

Sood filed this affidavit along with the advocate for the state government to a division bench of the high court. The bench is examining a public interest litigation filed by a person named V Shashidhar, who has sought initiation of investigation by special investigation team against 24 people's representatives who had recommended police transfers during the rule of coalition government comprising the Congress and the JD(S).

Sood assured the high court that recommendations which may be made by MLAs and MLCs to retain police officials in their current places of work or transfer elsewhere would be overlooked. Moreover, the affidavit also says that the board will also mandatorily follow the Supreme Court verdict in Prakash Singh case, and high court directives.

As the other defendant, additional principal secretary8 of home department, failed to file affidavit on Thursday, the high court adjourned the hearing in the case to March 1.
