Mangaluru, Feb 13: Magisterial investigating officer and Udupi deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha on Thursday, February 13, heard witnesses at the office of assistant commissioner at Mini Vidhana Soudha, Mangaluru, over police firing incident which took place in Mangaluru police commissionerate limits on December 19 last year.
Speaking to media later, Jagadeesha said that 203 people have arrived so far to the magisterial court and provided witness. “As many as 201 people had arrived earlier. Another two people have testified on Thursday. Besides, a person who had already testified earlier, handed over a video recorded on mobile phone.
“Mangaluru police commissioner was directed to produce video of the incidents. A pen drive with 50 videos has been produced. Nearly 20 DVRs were taken into custody by police personnel for investigation and handed over to the court. Assistant police commissioner and police officer Belliappa has produced their receipt.
“Two witnesses who arrived late for the last hearing were heard on Thursday. Both of them have given written statement. As per directions of the high court, police personnel had invited people and the media to produce video and CCTV footages. But only one person has produced a mobile recording. Nobody else has come forward with them,” he said.
“The case will be heard in the high court on February 24. It is decided to submit a report regarding the developments so far. There is provision of three months to submit complete report. The police department has not been questioned so far. Detailed investigations are in progress. The report will be submitted after everything is completed,” he said.
‘Hearing postponed to February 19’
“The hearing is postponed to February 19 as there was bandh today and to avoid inconvenience to people. It will be held from 11 am to 1 pm on February 19,” said magisterial investigating officer G Jagadeesha. “Those who are interested are being given opportunity. Videos in social media are not being considered. The videos should have been shot by the witnesses. DVRs of houses will also be accepted,” he said.
