Karkala, Feb 13: On February 8 the Kalasadhana Youth Music Festival was held in memory of sabha's founder president sangeet guru Late B Yogish Baliga. Bharathi Krishna Prabhu and Y Mohan Shenoy inaugurated the festival by lighting the lamp. S Nithyananda Pai, president of the Sabha, secretary Dr Prakash Shenoy and treasurer Prabhakar N Pandit were present.
Students of M Venkatesh Chiplunkar presented Carnatic music for one hour. Later young talent from Bengaluru Aditi Prahalad sang Carnatic vocal. She was accompanied by Rajagopalan on violin and Nikshit T Puttur on mridangam. Hindustani vocalist teenager Nidhi Shenoy from Bengaluru sang Rag Jog (Viambit and Drut) and a couple of devotional songs. She was ably supported by Hemanth Bhagavat on harmonium and Shreevatsa Sharma on tabla.
Child prodigy tabla artiste from Dharwad, Hemanth Joshi disciple of Shrivatsa Koulgi and Ot Ramadas Palsule gave an hour's scintillating tabla solo. Pt Sathvijay Bhat gave good lehra on harmonium. Control over rhythm, confidence, clarity and variety of tabla boals made Hemant a highly admirable artist with a great future.
On the morning of February 9, a full-day programme - Dr Kadri Gopalnath Memorial Music Festival was inaugurated by Aruna Mohan Shenoy, Vijay Vaman - president of Sangeet Sagar, Sagara. Students of Saraswathi Sangeet Shala presented tabla solo and Carnatic vocal for one hour.
'Surmani' Mahalaxmi Shenoy of Karkala presented morning Ragas Nat- Bhairav (Vilambit Ektaal and Drut Ektaal), Bhatiyara( Drut teentaal), a Meera Bhajan in Raag Todi and a Brahmanand Bhajan in Raag Charukeshi. Raag establishment and taan patterns were noteworthy. Vishwanath Bhat on harmonium and Keshav Joshi gave excellent accompaniment.
At mid-noon, Vidushi Sankari Krishnan from Chennai gave a mature Carnatic vocal concert with Trivendrum Sampat on violin and Jayachandra on mridangam. Her control over Shruti and laya were remarkable.
Post lunch Hindustani and Carnatic instrumental jugalbandi by Akash S from Mumbai (Bansuri) and Harish Pandhav from Mysore was well appreciated. Rag Bhimpalas (Abheri) was well explored. Nikshit Puttur (Mridangam) and Abhishek Mishra, New Delhi on tabla.
At 4 pm, young exponent of Kirana Gharana Krishnendra Wadikar impressed the audience with his powerful scholarly singing in delineating Rag Shuddh - Sarang. Keshav Joshi (Tabla) and P Shankar Shenoy (Harmonium) gave very nice accompaniment.
Amita Dalal of Ahmedabad disciple of Manjuben Mehta and Grammy award winner Mohana, veena maestro Padmabhooshan Pt Vishwamohan Bhatt gave a good presentation of Raag Shuddh Sarang. Abhishek Mishra on tabla was very good.
The executive director of Bharath Beedi works, Mangaluru B Subraya M Pai presided over the closing ceremony. One minute silence was observed remembering Late B Ananth G Pai- former Honourary president of the Sabha, Late Dr Kadri Gopalnath and Late Pangal Dinesh Shenoy, who was an outstanding tabla artist from Manipal. P Nithyananda Rao, secretary of Dr Mani Krishnaswamy Academy, spoke on Dr Kadri Gopalnath's contribution in music. President of Sabha S Nithyananda Pai welcomed the gathering and B Subraya M Pai gave the presidential address. Secretary Dr Prakash Shenoy proposed the vote of thanks.
Concluding concert in memory of Late B Ganapathi Pai was rendered by Vidushi Sania Patankar, a senior disciple of Vidushi Ashwini Bhide Deshpande sang Rag Nand and concluded with Bhairavi Tappa. The presentation was unique in Jaipur- Athroli Gharana style. Excellent ACC Satish Kolli (Harmonium) and Shrivats Koulgi made the concert immemorable.
Tanpura support was given by Veena Nayak, Jyothi Rajesh Pai and Vaishnavi Bhat.
