Mangaluru, Feb 13: Customs officials at Mangaluru International Airport in the city seized 233.18 grams of gold worth Rs 9.39 lac from a passenger who arrived by Air India Express flight on the evening of Wednesday, February 12.
The person who brought the gold is identified as Mohammed Mahir Patla Majeed (24), a resident of Patla in Kasargod district of Kerala state.
The passenger concealed the gold in strip form inside a rechargeable emergency light and solar sensor wall light. Based on the profile of the passenger, the custom officers intercepted the passenger on suspicion and detected the gold strips with the help of imaging system.
A case is registered under the Customs Act of 1962 by the authorities and further investigation is on.
