Byndoor: Shirur tollgate - Third in district on NH 66, becomes operational

Byndoor, Feb 13: Shirur toll plaza, which was expected since long, started functioning since Wednesday February 12. This happens to be the third toll gate in Udupi district across national highway 66. Vehicles moving to Shirur and Bhatkal have to pay at the gate henceforth.

The plaza was to be opened on February 9 but was delayed due to technical and administrative issues.

The company and highway authority have decided to meet the demands made by Heddari Horata Samiti and others since sometime. Under this, vehicles located within five km radius from the toll gate get concession. For vehicles located within 20 km, they can get monthly pass of Rs 265. Local school vehicles and Udupi district vehicles get 50 percent concession.

Local MLAs, MP and former MLA too had joined the protest held demanding proper quality of highway work and demanding toll fee concession.
