Mangaluru: Karnataka bandh on Feb 13 may not affect coastal region

Mangaluru, Feb 13: The Forum of Pro-Kannada organizations has given a call for statewide bandh on Thursday February 13. The Kannada organizations have been demanding for the implementation of Saojini Mahishi report on job reservations for Kannadigas in Toto. However, the bandh call may not impact normal life in coastal region very much.

Government and private buses are likely to be run the whole day without any adverse affect. Schools and colleges also may function normally.

Divisional controller of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) S N Arun, also expects movement of buses to be as usual today. KSRTC Employees Union leader, Praveen, said that his outfit extends moral support for the bandh call, but the bus services will not be affected.

Dakshina Kannada Taximens and Maxcabs Associaiton general secretary, Anand K, said that no instructions to observe bandh has come from the state level organization and that taxies will move about normally.

Deputy director of public instructions in Dakshina Kannada district, Dr Malleswarmy, clarified that all schools and colleges in the district will function normally. Karnaaka Rakshana Vedike Mangaluru taluk president Madhusudan Gowda said that the Vedike supports demand to implement Mahishi report, but the bandh call will not be supported.

    For this issue to be amicably resolved, the Bishop Fr. Anthony Swamy and Fr. Shantaraj should hold a meeting with the committee of lay leaders to clear all the charges held against them and come clean. If not, they should face the law. Let truth prevail!
