Kasargod, Feb 10: In a case of theft that came to be known on Sunday, February 9 evening, thieves entered the house belonging to a merchant by breaking open the lock and returned with a rich haul of cash and gold. As per preliminary information gathered, the thieves could make good their escape with 80 sovereigns of gold and two lac rupees in cash.

The thieves broke into the house of Srinivas Rao, who owns a fancy shop in Badiadka town. Perhaps they knew the fact that Rao and his family members had locked their home two days ago on a visit to Kolkata. Sensing good opportunity, they seem to have committed this theft.

A person who was watering the garden next door on Sunday found that the front door of Rao's house was wide open. He called a relative of Rao and had a close check in the company of the relative. It was found that the door was broken, almirah inside the house was also broken open and things inside were scattered around.

When a call was made to Rao, it reportedly came to light that the almirah had 80 sovereigns of gold ornaments and two lac rupees in cash. Cash and gold it appears were taken away by the thieves.

Personnel of Badiadka station visited the spot and are putting together details. Srinivas Rao, in the meanwhile, returned home in the light of the theft. The police are collecting detailed information on gold ornaments and cash stolen from Rao's residence.
