Mangaluru, Feb 7: As part of the magisterial inquiry being conducted into the unsavoury incidents which happened during anti Citizenship Amendment Act protests and police firing which followed on December 19, 2019, petitions were accepted from the general public on Thursday February 6 at the assistant commissioner's court hall here.
About 75 persons submitted their petitions. Udupi district deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha, who has been appointed as the inquiry officer, received the petitions and took them on record. Relatives of the deceased Jaleel and Nausheen and women also submitted their statements to the officer.
This was the fifth sitting connected with the inquiry. Jagadeesha later told the media that so far, a total of 201 petitions and statements have been recorded including 75 on Thursday.
It was earlier informed that Thursday was the last day for submissions of petitions. As per the instructions of the state high court, another sitting will be held on February 13, Jagadeesha stated.
On Thursday, eight persons who came to record oral evidence were given opportunity to provide affidavits and petitions through affidavits on /February 13, he added. At the same time, the policemen have been asked to furnish video and CCTV footage they have with them and witnesses have been asked to be produced on that day. Media and members of the general public too may submit evidences relating to the issue if any, Jagadeesha stated.
