Bantwal, Feb 7: Vittal police have arrested K Muhammed Salaam alias Salaam alias Dollar Salaam (28), a resident of Chikkamudnoor Keremoole. He was arrested for trying to steal from a shop after breaking its lock. The police said that he is a notorious inter-state robber.
He has been accused of breaking into a shop at Kodaje in Netlamudnoor village in the early hours of February 3. The operation to arrest him was executed by Vittal probationary station house officer, Vinod Reddy under instructions from police circle inspector T D Nagaraj, under the guidance of Dakshina Kannada superintendent of police Dr Laxmi Prasad and deputy superintendent of police Valentine D'Souza.
It is said that Salaam had interest in singing since he was young, but as he did not get proper guidance to hone his talent further, he resorted to stealing to make easy money. About seven years back, he had mingled with foreign nationals in Goa and was involved with drugs mafia to lead a luxurious life, it is said.
Salaam initially was involved with petty thefts like pick pocket but later progressed into committing large sale robberies. In a robbery case in Goa, he was jailed for a year, it is said. He was accused of dacoity in Puttur, and blackmail case in Kerala. He was also arrested in a case of theft in B C Road, the police said.
