Bengaluru, Feb 4: Construction of as many as 3.5 lac houses taken up under various housing schemes in Karnataka will be completed by June, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said on Tuesday. He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for different developmental schemes and distribution of facilities to beneficiaries at a public function in Sarjapur village of Anekal taluk in the outskirts of the city.
Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) is implementing projects for construction of one lakh multi-story housing complexes for the beneficiaries from the unorganized and economically backward classes of Bengaluru city.
The Board has also taken up development of 21,000 sites and construction of 770 houses. In addition, steps are being taken for construction of 83,119 houses under the Pradhan MantriAwas Yojana.
The Chief Minister said the Satellite town ring road being taken up covering the urban areas around Bengaluru will be passing through Anekal and provide necessary impetus for the people to take up commercial activities for their economic upliftment.
He said the Bengaluru Urban district adjacent to the City was fast developing and getting necessary urban amenities.
The State Government is fully committed to providing necessary basic infrastructure facilities to the people of Anekal and its surroundings as also the suburbs of Bengaluru, he said assuring that steps are being taken to provide pure drinking water and quality roads.
Yediyurappa said the Central government under the leadership of Prime Minister NarendraMody has announced the suburban railway project in the Union budget for the year 2020-21, which would cover Huskuru, SingenaAgrahara, Bommasandra and nearby places of Anekal taluk.
Revenue Minister R Ashok, in his speech, said the Yediyurappa government would give greater emphasis for pro-farmer programmes and rehabilitation of the flood affected people.
The suburban railway project would help in reducing traffic congestion in the area by at least 25 per cent, he said.
Bengaluru ZillaPanchayat President C Muniraju, MLAs S R Vishwanath, M Satish Reddy and others were present at the function.
Later, the Chief Minister held pre-budget discussions pertaining to Public Works, Social Welfare and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj departments.
Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister K S Eshwarappa attended the meeting.
Earlier, the Chief Minister visited the residence of former minister and Legislative Council Chairman D Manjunath and paid homage by placing a wreath on the body.
