Udupi: Kota double murder - Family charges police inaction at politician's behest

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Feb 3: Parvathi, mother of Bharath, who was killed along with his friend, Yathish, at around 10 pm on January 26, 2019 at his home, recollects that the then district superintendent of police, Laxman Nimbargi, had arrested all the accused involved with the double murder immediately. A few of the accused have procured bail from the court. One of the accused, Raghavendra Kanchan, a zilla panchayat member from BJP, had secured bail from the high court. Parvathi approached Supreme Court and got his bail cancelled.

Hemanth, brother of the deceased Bharath, addressing media, on Monday, February 3, said that his mother Parvathi rues the fact that in spite of providing all the necessary documents to the superintendent of police, Kanchan has not been arrested even after lapse of considerable time. “She suspects that a local politician from Kundapur would have brought pressure on the police on behalf of the accused. She said she has decided to observe fast unto death in front of the district superintendent of police office from February 7 onward if the accused is not arrested by then,” he said.

He further said that Parvathi has also threatened to file contempt of court case in the Supreme Court against the police department. He said, “She hopes that the people of the district will support and cooperate with her fight for justice for her my brother and his friend. My mother is thankful to Kothady Chandrashekhar Shetty, advocate from Kundapur who helped her to fight the case in the Supreme Court, and Bengaluru-based lawyer couple, Chandrashekhar Patil and Rekha Patil, for arguing the case in the Supreme Court on her behalf.

“My mother had borrowed money from various sources to fight the case and get the bail granted to Raghavendra Kanchan cancelled. She is frustrated at the fact that she has succeeded in her fight in the court but the accused is absconding. She is annoyed at the fact that Kanchan enjoys political patronage and wishes that she gets justice soon.

“My mother had succeeded in her fight in the Supreme Court because of the divine blessings of Goddess Amriteshwari of Kota and she trusts that the Goddess will continue to bless all her endeavours even in future,” he said.
