Mysuru, Feb 3: "The situation in the country is like undeclared emergency. We should not get comfortable under the notion that we have not yet felt its heat. You all should get to work and spread knowledge about the ill-effects of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) passed by the BJP government at the centre," said former chief minister, Siddaramaiah.
He was speaking after presiding over the national symposium on 'unconstitutional CAA and discriminatory National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC)' held on Sunday February 2 in the premises of Congress Bhavan here.
He asserted that CAA, NPR and NRC should not be allowed to be enforced in India for any reason whatsoever. "The centre will miserably fail in their objective. Our workers to spread awareness about the shortcomings of these laws by touring villages," he insisted.
Siddaramaiah said that some of the party workers are still confused on the issue. Those who are undecided are favouring soft Hindutva, he added. "When the party takes a stand on any issue, the party workers should have clarity and commitment about the stand. Only then would they be able to keep the people informed about the truth," he said.
He accused the Prime Minister and the BJP of not paying any attention to several burning issues affecting the country. He charged the BJP governments in the state and the centre of instigating Muslims, forcing them to take to streets, and then pitching them against Hindus. He said the BJP indulges in these things in order to derive political benefit.
Retired Supreme Court Judge, Justice Gopala Gowda, said that the central government is trying to snatch away fundamental rights of the people in the name of CAA and asked the people to be alert and careful.
