Haveri, Feb 1: A 63-year-old unmarried man now has become desirous of starting a family. He has handed over an application to the gram panchayat, asking it to find a girl for him. This incident happened in Naregal village of Hangal taluk in Haveri district.
The panchayat officials, who were accustomed to getting applications for residences under housing scheme, benefits under government schemes etc, were surprised to receive a request seeking help in finding a bride for the old man. The fact that he has already reached 63, does not seem have dithered him from deciding to marry.
This story is not a fiction. In an application made to the gram panchayat (GP) president and panchayat development officer, Dyamanna Kammar (63) has sought a girl who belongs to his own caste so that he can marry her. He has said that he is aa priest of Dyamavva shrine, he is unmarried, and his search for a suitable girl so far has failed. "I have no one to cook food. Therefore, I am willing to marry. You have to find a girl for my marriage," he has said in the application.
The president and panchayat development officer have received Dyamanna's application and issued acknowledgement. Some gram panchayat members too have supported Dyamanna's application by signing it.
