Mangaluru, Jan 31: As part of the diamond jubilee year celebrations of NITK Surathkal, the department of Civil Engineering from January 30 to 31 organized a national conference on 'New and effective Innovations, Technologies and Key challenges 2020' (NCCE-NITK 2020).
The conference received an overwhelming response from the research community and received about 100 submissions to the main conference and the co-located special sessions, from all over India and foreign universities.
NCCE-NITK 2020 aims to bring in the present scenario. Civil engineering is a challenging field to focus on infrastructural activities, water treatment and environmental facilities, foundations and tunnels. Hence NCCE-NITK 2020 aims to bring in new ideas and developmental activities from various streams of civil engineering in a common platform to share knowledge and its applications in a wide spectrum. It also provides the connecting forum for academicians, researchers, practitioners and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, concerns, practical challenges encountered and its solutions adopted in this field.
The conference inauguration was conducted at the main seminar hall by Dr C S Manohar Professor IISc Bengaluru as the chief guest, Dr Sunil Kumar, Principal Scientist & Head technology Development Centre CSIR-NEERI Nagpur was guest of honour, Prof Katta Venkatramana Head of the Department and Prof Shubash Yaragal Dean Planning & Development (director-in-charge, NITK) presided over the function.
Dr C Rajasekaran, Assistant Professor and Dr C P Devatha organizing chair and editor for NCCE-NITK 2020 organizing chair, department of Civil Engineering were also present on the dais. At the inaugural event, the conference proceedings were also released by the eminent personalities.
Later, Dr C S Manohar Professor IISc Bengaluru delivered a keynote lecture on Engineering Structures for safety, robustness and resilience followed by another keynote address by Dr Sunil Kumar, Principal Scientist & Head technology Development Centre CSIR-NEERI Nagpur on Applications of vacuum in geotechnical engineering practice.
The conference was supported by The Institution of Engineers (India) Mangalore Local Centre and Atomic Energy Regulatory Board Mumbai.
