Mangalore, Oct 13: The junior magistrate (first class) court here, has ordered registration of a criminal case against Panambur deputy superintendent of police, Girish, relating to the arrest of and assault on Harish, a Bajrang Dal activist from Yedapadav village within Bajpe police station limits, on Saturday October 10.
Relating to the investigation into an assault case, Yedapadav Harish had been arrested and brought to Bajpe police station at about 10 pm on Saturday. On this occasion, DySP Girish allegedly assaulted him in the guise of interrogation. On the same day, Harish was produced in front of a judge, at 12 am. At that time, Harish had submitted that he had been kicked by the DySP with his shoes and that his head had been banged to the wall. Harish also allelged that Girish had threatened the former with fixing him in a murder case and then eliminating him through an encounter.
The judge accordingly, had ordered medical examination of Harish. A person named Moodushedde Harish had filed a private complaint about the assault, in the court.
A criminal case has been registered against DySP Girish. He has been served with a show-cause notice. The Bajpe policemen have been asked to file a report on the assault incident. In the meanwhile, Harish is being treated at the district Wenlock Hospital in the city. Advoate P P Hegde had represented Harish in the court.
In the meanwhile, the Bajrang Dal activists have decided to hold a demonstration in front of the office of the district deputy commissioner here on the evening of Tuesday October 13, in protest against the above assault. The Dal district convener Sharan Pumpwell said that the police officer, who is in a responsible position, was not justified in physically assaulting Harish in the guise of inquiry. He said that the protest is aimed at demanding immediate action against the police officer.
